The Painted Desert extends from the Grand Canyon in a southeasterly direction along the north side of the Little Colorado River to Holbrook. It is approximately 150 miles long and 15–50 miles wide and covers an area of 7,500 square miles. Photographing around Winslow one day, I accidentally stumbled upon this area after I decided to explore a lone dirt road. The area was desolate and isolated. At the end of the dirt road, this magnificent scene unfolded before me. I literally stood at the ledge of this canyon and ....laughed. It was so amazing.
