One can actually LEGALLY access this area via the Barr Trail which passes through Mt. Manitou on the way up to Pikes Peak. The trail starts in Manitou Springs, a small town at the west end of Colorado Springs.
No aperture or shutter speed was recorded. Most likely I was using ASA (ISO) 25 speed slide film.
I photographed this foggy landscape on a misty morning in August, 1976 after taking the (now defunct) Manitou Incline Railway up Mt. Manitou. Today the tracks are gone but the timber remains and the Incline has become a local attraction for exercise enthusiasts to hike or run up its steep slope, although that is currently illegal. This was taken in my early days of photography and one of the "tricks" that could be used to create such a scene (I DID NOT DO THIS TO THIS IMAGE!) was to fog the lens by breathing on it and then quickly snapping the shot before the lens moisture disappeared. By the way, back then I never remember the term "atmospherics" being used for these types of landscapes :)
