Pikes Peak is visible from multiple vantage points but to see it from Garden of the Gods enter the park from 30th Street on the northwest side of Colorado Springs.

Sunsets over Pikes Peak seem to be more spectacular in March and September as that is when the setting sun aligns best east to west with the mountain. I noticed that there was just the right amount of clouds forming the evening of March 1, 2013 and so I sought out one of my favorite viewing spots in the Garden of the Gods to capture the event. After the sun had dipped behind the peak it lit up the clouds with a fantastic display of color. I used the camera's flash to highlight some of the sandstone rock in the foreground.
