A Snowy Owl, Nyctea scandiaca, perched in the top of a bare maple tree gives me a yellow-eyed stare. It did not appreciate the photographer below interrupting its hunting before sunset. This diurnal owl's dark barring indicates that it is either a juvenile or female. Sightings of Snowy Owls in Wisconsin were more frequent than usual this past winter due to a large incursion. I felt privileged to see these beautiful owls in the wild on several occasions.
