Description

An adult Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, flies low over the Mississippi River just below a lock and dam. Late day sunlight casts a warm glow on the magnificent plumage of its outstretched wings. Open water around locks and dams on the river often provide much needed winter access to fishing for the eagles where there can be multitudes of the great birds. Due to milder temps and very little ice, populations were widely dispersed but the few eagles that came to fish for dinner just before sunset were a wonderful sight.
