Description

A Green Heron, with a bite-sized bluegill in its bill, steps out of the water to swallow the sushi snack. Green Herons, Butorides virescens, are shy wading birds that typically wait motionless by water for their prey to approach within striking distance. They are common in wet areas throughout much of the U.S. and are often seen stalking prey along the edges of ponds and marshes.
