A long lens was not needed for this bird. It was very territorial and would come out to follow anyone who appeared near it. After a short search I decided the bird was not around and started to leave the area. Then I heard faint footsteps behind me and there he was—too close for my 70-200 zoom lens. He followed me back to the car and jumped in while I attached my shorter lens. We walked back to the woods for a good photo session. As I finally left, he jumped onto my hat, trying to pull it off. But it was tied on so I escaped intact.
