As is my usual routine when shooting snowflake photos, I have a black scarf that I use as the background. I have a spot in my yard in my flower garden where I lay the scarf on the branches of my blue spruce. The branches are sturdy enough to hold the scarf while also shielding as much glare from the hazy sky as possible. That's what I did for this photo. Using macro mode, I simply waited for this perfect little snowflake to fall. Snowflakes fall in different ways, and this one actually landed standing up, so I was able to get a great shot of its amazing detail.

Notes

Snowflakes are so intricate and delicate little creations. You may not enjoy the snow, but maybe this little jewel will change your mind!

Description

Snowflake photos have become a passion of mine. I had never seen an actual snowflake until I started photographing them 3 years ago. This is s photo I took during the last snow at my house this winter.
