Notes

Mono Lake's first fall storm - this one came in from the southeast and the clouds shut off the morning sunrise. The light slowly changed from black, to deep blue, to this greenish blue and then to a stormy grey. There was no brilliant red sky this morning - but this was impressive in a different way. Well worth struggling through thick willows and tules in the dark. Shortly after this, it got cold & started to rain with bits of snow and hail.

Description

Weather and clouds help make Mono Lake one of the most photographed icons in the west. I had hoped for the sun to break through under this oncoming storm and turn the sky red, but not this morning - it stayed blue with this amazing green tint to the water. I wanted a fairly slow shutter speed to smooth the surface and add some movement to the clouds. 0.8 sec, f/9.0, ISO 200, 16mm.
