Sunset, Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument, Utah. Driving between Calf Creek and Boulder, Utah along one of the last built highways in the continental U.S. this sunset started to develop. The problem became finding an un-obscured vantage point where the large format camera could be set up before it disappeared. Obviously the spot was found and the race against time began. With a large format camera, setting up the tripod and camera with the appropriate lens, calculating the exposure getting the roll film back on the camera and making the exposure all take precious time. One exposure was made just before the light disappeared from the distant peaks.
