Description

OK, the road itself is not actually named “Alien road”, but to look at it in Valley of Fire State Park, you’d think you accidentally drove to another planet. The first time I saw this, I literally just stopped in the middle of the road to take it all in (the guy behind me was less than thrilled, but oh well…). I had tried to capture this shot on several previous trips. I tried at just after sunrise, just before sunset, and I could never quite get the color I was looking for. I was considering another sunset try on this trip when it occurred to me – maybe the best time to pop the shutter was AFTER sunset! So, I set up and waited for sundown (crossing my fingers hoping for some nice colors in the sky and on the rocks). Well, it was my lucky day! I shot and shot for the next 15 minutes. I tried all sorts of compostions, but this was by far the runaway favorite. I just love the winding road as it twists off into the hills.
