Merida, Yucatan in a parking lot between streets 66 and 68 off of street # 53.
I have photographed the drama of these parrots, pygmy owls, keel-billed toucan, golden-fronted woodpeckers, and great kiskadees all compete over nesting in this one palm tree!
This parrot pair had also been excavating the same woodpecker hole in a palm tree that the white-fronted parrots used. The white-fronted parrots won. But preening helps to maintain the pair's social bond while also keeping the feather's in good condition. It seems a difficult task to perch and preen on a skinny limb at the same time.
