This is one of those lightning strikes you see, hear, feel at the same time and makes you instinctively duck and run for safety. I told my storm chasing buddy that I wanted to be in front of the storm and shoot it as it came to us instead of being at the side and shooting as it pasted . After about 10 minutes we got this shot. 5 minutes later, with our hearts still racing, we were sitting in the truck with our cameras outside on tripods and the shutter release cables fed through the windows. We now adhere to his method of chasing storms from a safe distance. While this is one of many lightning shots I have, it is the most memorable because it taught me that safety should be first and no picture is worth putting yourself in danger for. I still have dreams of taking that perfect sunrise/sunset picture one day and want to hang around long enough to do it. Canon XSI, Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 lens at 30mm. F/5.6, 26 seconds.
