Description

One of my goals when I’m out shooting birds in flight is to grab an image with a cool, mid-air pose. Well, turns out Snow Geese are pretty good at pulling off interesting aerobatics as they search for a place to land for the evening. This was taken one sunny winter evening at Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge while literally hundreds of Snow Geese were returning to a small pond. The back / sidelight was just gorgeous and I snapped shot after shot of these fantastic birds as they came in to stake out a spot for the night. Most of the attempts were misses – sometimes focus was a bit off, sometimes framing was, sometimes I didn’t like the background, sometimes the birds were just too far away. However, every now and then everything comes together and you capture a really cool moment. I like to think this is one of those kinds of shots :)
