I was at the park shooting fall colors and sunset clouds when all of a sudden something caught my ear. The sound of a goose landing in the water nearby. I snapped around to see one landing and another following close on its tail. As I panned my camera around I was able to fire off two quick shots before the moment was over.
Normally I shoot in Manual mode, but with the rapidly diminishing light I was shooting in Aperture Priority mode. Had I been in manual mode I would have had exposure set to capture the brilliant sky and this goose would have been horribly underexposed. This image, of the second goose just before it touched down, was from the second exposure. The first was still locked in on the exposure for the clouds and was underexposed. Because of my camera being able to adjust on the fly, a quarter second later, the exposure above, was more than I could have hoped for.
