Description

South Florida is the only place in the world where it is possible to view alligators and crocodiles sharing habitat. This large adult male American crocodile, Crocodylus acutus, is one of several crocs found near Flamingo, a fishing camp and marina at the southern tip of Everglades National Park. As he glided through the water toward me, he passed through several patches of sunlight, which contrasted nicely with the dark greens of the foliage that were reflected in the water. South Florida marks the northernmost range of the American crocodile.
