Description

Racetrack Playa is a dry lake bed in a remote area at the north end of Death Valley National Park. The surface is covered with mud crack saucers that create a striking image when the sun is low in the sky. The "Racetrack" is also known for it's famous sailing stones which move across the surface leaving a distinct track behind them. This image was taken in the late afternoon as the sun was setting behind the mountains.
