Fill up with gas. In Big Bend Natioanl Park, take the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive to it's end at the Santa Elena Canyon Trailhead.
This spring, all of west Texas was in a drought. We went to Big Bend seeking wildflowers but there were none to be seen. However, the landscapes were well worth the trip. The Rio Grande was nearly dry and you could step across the border. In the photograph, the left side of the canyon is Mexico and the right is the United States. I was standing near the border when I took the image. The image is a composite of two verticals stiched together. The image is cropped so that the shoreline lies on the lower third line and the canyon near the right vertical thirds line.
Sunrise on the Rio Grande River as it flows out of Santa Elena Canyon. The photograph was taken while attending an Arizona Highways Photography Worhshop at Big Bend Natianal Park.
