Description

I took this last year along the Tidal basin in Washington, DC. This area had been packed with people for the days leading up to this shot. The rain scared them away. Where there were hundreds of photographers the day before there were none. The blossoms stayed on the trees longer then I had seen in years. The conditions were perfect. The blooms were huge. Hoping to squeeze a few more shots off I went down before work. While it was still dark it started raining. I sat on a bench waiting. I became completely drenched in no time. I hoped I would be lucky and get a break in the clouds as the sun came up. I hung in. It never happened. After the sun came up I realized my plans were dashed. It was still raining. Before I left I looked around for other opportunities. I noticed that the blossoms were completely undisturbed on the walkways. I got a few shots off, like this, before the rain became too much even for me. I used an inexpensive plastic camera rain coat to protect my camera and lens.
