While visiting Zion National Park, I'd always wanted to hike the Emerald Pools. Poor timing on my first attempt left my in a sea of tourists and unable to photography. I returned the next day in the pre-dawn darkness and hiked to the Upper Emerald Pool. The pool was beautiful and undisturbed. No tourists for hours. I was able to sit in this little cove in front of the pool, eat my breakfast and watch the sunrise to gently warm the rocks. What I really remember about the encounter was how still and clear the water was.
