This image was taken from my kayak in Merchants Millpond State Park. Merchants Millpond is a coastal pond and southern swamp forest in northeastern North Carolina. It has some of the oldest living cypress trees in the world and it can be quite spooky. Especially when paddling over top of the hidden cypress knees that live just below the water's surface. They have some very large gators that reside in the pond/lake, but thankfully I steered clear of those on this particular afternoon.
