Sonberanes Point pullout in Big Sur, California. Hike a half mile to Soberanes Point.
The 70-200 mm compressed things very nicely, allowing me to capture these waves as they streaked across the ocean to pound the coastline. The waves seemed to me like dolphins leaping and playing.
After taking countless grand vistas of the Big Sur coast at dawn, I got out my 70-200 mm 2.8 to try to capture the power, energy and elegance of the big swells I was witnessing racing towards the shore. The image was taken in color, but the color was weak and all that seemed to matter was energy, form and contrast, so black & white seemed a natural to me.
