This is a picture taken at sunrise in Washington, DC. During the the spring fish runs the Great Blue Herons gather around rapids to fish. I would get out on the river in the pitch black and wait. The rapids in this area have taken many lives. Combined with slippery rocks safety is a major concern. Great Blue Herons are quite skittish so I covered myself in a camouflage material and waited patiently. I used A 100mm prime and a 3.5 fstop. I had to use the thin depth of field do to the low light combined with being hand held.
