Yavapai Point is located on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. However, any high-desert area that gets snow can provide similar photographic opportunities.
I achieved the high-contrast effect in PhotoShop Elements v10: Filters>Adjustments>Threshold, then using the slider to achieve the level of contrast I desired.
Often, the subject of a photograph defines the post-processing treatment. I previsualized this photograph as a high-contrast image, without any grays, to emphasize the shape of the yucca's daggers (leaves). I like the Zen-like simplicity of the photograph, which looks like it might have been a sumi drawing.
