These two submissions represent my first attempts at snowflake macros. This type of photography presents many challenges that must be overcome, including micro-focusing, depth of field issues, lighting, camera vibration, and lack of cooperation from the tiny subjects (they have this maddening habit of melting). Just as I was beginning to overcome some of the technical challenges, the snow stopped, and the temperature increased beyond ideal shooting conditions. Fortunately, I was able to get these two images just in time for the submission deadline. Amazing little works of nature, aren't they?
