Checked the weather the night before. 30% chance of snow showers, and wind at 2 mph. I also expected to see some of the lake. Sounded good. Woke up at 2:45am, drove 2 1/2 hours into a blizzard with 30-40mph winds. Meandered through about 40-50 elk on the empty dark road near the entrance to the park, and got to the empty parking lot before light. Was not sure I'd even get out of the truck after driving up the hill on a road with no fresh tracks and snow drifts across it. Wind and snow was howling as I sat alone in the parking lot. The weather broke a little bit just prior to sunrise, so I headed out to find a frozen lake and the place to myself, except for another photographer who showed up later.
