Photo Of The Day Halloween, 2012
The area around Mt Katahdin in Maine is spectacular. As the highest mountain Maine and the northern end of the Appalachian Trail, Katahdin rises out of the rolling hills and lakes below almost like a volcano rising out of the ocean. Amidst the wilderness there in northern Maine, there are opportunities for grand landscapes an d more intimate, and abstract photos. During peak fall color, the possibilities for spectacular nature photography are boundless.
Brent Johnston wins today’s Photo Of The Day honors with his photo of fall color reflected in Millinocket Lake. He describes getting this photo, ”I’d driven to photograph Mt. Katahdin, the highest point in Maine, from the eastern shore of Millinocket Lake. As I drove around the lake, venturing up various dirt roads, I was first struck by the beautiful reflections the autumn foliage cast on this small inlet. Then I saw the abstract formation and texture of the fallen tree and was smitten!” Johnston used a Canon EOS 7D, Canon 28-135mm lens, Hoya polarizer and Manfrotto tripod to get this photo.
The Fall Color 2012 Assignment has been extended for a week. It’s open for submissions through November 7.
