Getting Ready for Fall

Autumn is just around the corner! A favorite time for poets and photographers alike, the fall season is fleeting, giving you little time to get it right. To help you get the most out of your autumn photography, I’d like to point you to a few useful fall color resources.

First, check out my blog post from last year called Top 5 Photo Tips for Autumn. It contains some helpful hints for optimizing your fall color photos. Also, take a look at Classic Fall Color by Stan Trzoniec in this month’s OP. The Autumn category on my personal photoblog contains fall color tips, techniques, and inspiration as well.

Second, check out online recourses such as The Weather Channel and The Foliage Network, both of which give you fall color reports for various parts of the country. These resources can help you plan your fall color adventure, and ensure that you are on location during peak autumn color.

Third, consider taking an autumn photography workshop. If you’re interested, I’ve got a few coming up, including Acadia National Park in Maine (October 10-14) and Zion National Park in Utah (November 5-9). Both are timed to catch some of the most beautiful fall color you can see in the U.S.

P.S. I’ve got two new ebooks, both of which deal in part with fall color shooting. The first, Zion National Park: Behind the Lens, takes an in-depth look at the making of twenty of my photos from Zion. The second (with co-author Richard Bernabe), Five Landscape Challenges 3, provides detailed techniques for appoaching five common landscape scenes.

Also, you might want to check out a recent post to my personal photoblog, So you want to be a pro nature photographer? The post offers some helpful and sobering advice on turning your photo hobby into a full-time profession.

I love fall pictures or rather nature pictures in general. If I ever get a great camera, I would love to take photos like this. I like butterfly pictures, sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, etc. Love those nature photos.
