Valley of the Three Kings

Posted By Joseph Rossbach

I just returned home from two weeks of shooting spring and leading workshops in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia near Canaan Valley. The conditions this year were some of the best I have experienced in almost five years! The foliage was fresh and green,  the water flowing and the light at times was nothing short of amazing. I spent most of my time exploring some new places and revisiting old location in search of fresh perspectives and great light.

The first image of many I will be sharing is from Sunrise this past Saturday looking into the Allegheny front from the summit of Bear Rocks Preserve on the Dolly Sods Plateau. The morning mist in the valley combined with warm sunrise light produced an amazing opportunity to capture a telephoto comp of the mountains in the distance. The tree mountains in the bottom right reminded me of Egyptian Pyramids hence the name of the image and this post. I used my Nikon 70-200mm at 200mm to isolate the scene.

Tech details: Nikon D700, 70-200mm F2.8, ISO 100, 1/160 @ F8, no filtration
