Close to Home

Foam and waterfall, Cascade Mountains

Writing pressures and family health issues have kept me uncharacteristically close to home this spring. But after a couple days in front of the computer, I typically rebel and head off to shoot something, if only for the day. Conditions yesterday were perfect : bright overcast and no rain – just what you want for photographing in the forest. So it was that I took a trail I didn’t know into the Cascade mountains, just an hour from my home. I toyed with a couple of subjects and then devoted most of the morning to this little gem of a waterfall, un-named and not on any map. All in all, a good day.

Nikon D700, 17-35mm 2.8 lens, 5 second exposure

Beautiful shot. The best waterfalls are those little cascades like that one that don’t show up on a map and can fill an afternoon.

Thanks, Josh. There is definitely something to be said for finding a spot and staying there, trying it a dozen different ways. It often takes time to find what it is you’re really looking for.

You only tried it a dozen different ways? What, were you in a hurry? :-) This is a really cool shot and what a great way to ease the eye strain from a computer.
