Today’s Photo of the Day is entitled “Lone Tree” by Dustin Penman and was submitted to the Wildflower Assignment. Yes, more lupines. I was indoctrinated by my home state with an affinity for our state flower – the bluebonnet – in early childhood, so I admit my slight bias. But what really drew me to Penman’s composition was the beautiful juxtaposition of the rich color palate contrasted with the silhouette of the single stark tree.
“My version of the wildflowers surrounding Lake Folsom (about 80% of last years bloom). This is a compilation of 4 images. I used 3 images for the “Focus stacked” effect and a 4th image was exposed for the sky. I then merged all the images in Photoshop. It was great to meet and shoot with my new friend Ryan Engstrom,” says Penman.
Penman’s equipment included a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens, tripod and cable release.
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
