Coral Cove Sunset, Jupiter Island, Florida

Posted By Joseph Rossbach
Arriving on Jupiter Island in the early afternoon I went straight to Coral Cove to scout out this location. I was surprised at how little an area of rock it was. I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it seemed like it would have been more expansive. At any rate,

The Forgotten Summer

Mist rises over forest at sunset, Paradise, Mt. Rainier
I headed back to Mt. Rainier again yesterday to see if, by September 1st, the legendary wildflowers were likely to bloom at all this year.  Apparently not: the meadows around Paradise are still dotted with snow, the heaviest in years. Many of the flowers are still just emerging from winter, and with autumn in the

Storm Light, Sainty Mary Lake, Glacier National Park
While on my recent trip to photograph and scout for a future workshop in Glacier National Park, I made it a goal to come away with at least one dramatic image from Saint Mary’s Lake, arguably the most photographed location in the park. The last time I was in Glacier was

Triple Falls, Glacier National Park

Posted By Joseph Rossbach
I am finally back home after a nine-day trip to Glacier National Park followed by a week in Charleston with my family on vacation. The trip to Glacier was productive, but incredibly frustrating. To start with, my first three days were absolutely horrid conditions for nature photography, blue bird blue skies

Sunset from Little Stony Man Cliffs, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

Posted By Joseph Rossbach
I’ve visited Little Stony Man Cliffs at least a dozen times before, sometimes with clients and sometimes alone. They face due west and therefore make a great location for sunset and later afternoon light. In all the years before, I have never been able to come away with anything truly epic from this spot, so

While out in northern Arizona this past July, on assignment leading a private tour for three of my East Coast clients, we spent an evening up at Stud Horse Point outside of Page. The rocks over to the right away from the main group of Hoodoos have always fascinated me, but I

Utopia Planitia

Utopia Planitia
Setting foot in this remote area of the Paria Plateau is as close as I will ever come to walking on Mars. The landscape is about as “alien” as it gets consisting of strange warped and twisted sandstone set against a bleak desert environment. On this day in mid November, I drove out across a

Mirror on the Marsh

Mirror on the Marsh
The landscape of the Chesapeake Bay is a beautiful place to visit and photograph. Thousands of miles of marsh and tidal shore lines line this rare and ecologically threatened area. My close friend and fellow OP Blogger, Ian Plant, produced the quintessential photo book of this region a few years ago working with world renowned

Quick Tips for Better Sunrise/Sunset

Posted By Rob Sheppard
I love sunrise and sunset. I have been known to photograph at both times in the same day, even on the longest day of the year! These times can be such magic just to be outside, let alone taking pictures. I am very fond of sunrises for that reason, because even in the busiest locations,

Having Fun

Palm Trees at night, California
Pictures are everywhere…even in parking lots.  I was in California this past week, learning to cook Thai food (even photographers need a hobby) but that doesn’t mean I didn’t bring a camera along. Here, in the middle of the city, I still found myself looking for natural subjects.. and one evening stumbled onto these palm
