A Year of Sublime Landscapes

It’s that time of the season when you start thinking about the year that’s just passed, the highs and lows, and what you’ll look forward to in 2010. Well one photographer who had a great 2009, no doubt, is David Zimmerman. We’d all do well to have the good fortune that Mr. Zimmerman experienced this year. First he was a director’s selection at the Center for Fine Art Photography. Then he was selected for the Hearst 8x10 Photography Biennial. And finally he won the L'Iris D'Or Prize at the Sony World Photography Awards. Not to mention the dozens of other accolades Mr. Zimmerman received along the way—all of which are well deserved for multiple bodies of work, including his varied and interesting Salton Sea photographs, the colorful typographic series Barriers and beautifully minimalist and powerful Desert Landscapes. See for yourself, with selections from each portfolio available online at his web site. With enough study of Mr. Zimmerman’s phenomenal body of work, maybe the rest of us can learn something we can put to good use in the coming year.
