Machu Picchu in Pictures

In discussing future travel plans, a good friend recently suggested that I visit Machu Picchu. The thought of traveling to Peru seemed a bit daunting, but then I discovered the work of photographer Mike Torrey and his new book, Stone Offerings: Machu Picchu’s Terraces of Enlightenment. Mr. Torrey’s wonderful photographs go a long way toward convincing me that there’s no place I’d rather see in person. He traveled to Machu Picchu to photograph the “lost city” on both the summer and winter solstices—days for which this sacred site held special meaning to the Inca who built it. The book includes more than 100 images from his visits. Photography such as this can serve both to show us lands we may never see with our own eyes, and inspire us to get out there to see the world for ourselves.
