Tips for shooting in snow

On the Tamron Angle of View photo blog, Jeff Allen offers some helpful suggestions for shooting this time of year. Namely, he’s got a lot of advice for successfully shooting in snow. Not so much advice about staying warm and fending off the elements, mind you, but rather suggestions for dealing with exposures when all around you is a blanket of bright, white, meter-bending snow. Exposure compensation to +1 stops is a great starting place to keep your TTL meter from being fooled, but Jeff also advises a few other things—like taking the time to experiment with RAW shooting, which can come in extremely handy during post production not only for fixing exposures but for adjusting white balance to eliminate any unpleasant winter color casts.
