Web Site Trying to Save America’s Landscape

There is a lot of diversity and contrast in the United State’s landscape, and there are many things that threaten its existence. Deforestation, natural disasters, wildfires, suburban sprawl and other problems stand to chip away at the land we outdoor photographers prize the most. Places like Coyote Buttes, the tufas of Mono Lake, Antelope Canyon, Yosemite and Delicate Arch are some of our natural treasures, but could be threatened on day if we fail to make an effort to preserve and conserve these ecosystems.

There is a new online resource created by the National Geographic Society and NatureServe called LandScope America; which is a portal with information and conservation tools for land trusts, conservation groups; local, state and federal government; landowners and the public to learn about issues, inspire support and bring together all members of the land-protection community – including outdoor photographers.

LandScope America is also asking members of NANPA to populate their map viewer with photography from all over the U.S. Their goal is to provide policy-makers and landowners with visual evidence of what makes certain locations special. The deadline to enter images is December 1st.
