- Description: Lake Martin in south Louisiana provides the photographer with endless opportunities to photograph flora and fauna. The area receives much of its credit for close encounters with alligators and the bird rookery located on the south side of the lake, but the cypress/tupelo forests hold their own in terms of beauty. When the morning light is right, there is no place more iconic to Louisiana than the swamps at Lake Martin.
This photograph was taken during sunrise and is of the most recognizable cypress at Lake Martin. This is a shot that I've been trying to capture for a long time! The conditions have to be just right. Enough fog on the lake to mask the duck blinds and opposite shore, but enough light from the east to illuminate the tree. When the conditions are right, as I found this morning, a simple isolation of the iconic cypress can create quite the illusion of a floating tree.
