Entering Photographic Competitions

Postby Edd » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:40 pm

Hi All,

Just thought I would ask your advice here.

I have seen a wildlife photographic competition being run over here in the UK, but one of the entry regulations is that any image entered you give them the right to free use of that image regardless of wether it wins or not.

I don't feel comfortable with this rule and probabley won't enter and if I did it wouldn't be my all time favourite shot because why should they get the use of my hard work for free. :?

Now if my image won then I would feel much happier about it.

I've only really entered one competition before and it didn't have a rule like this. Is this common or do you feel these guys could just be trawling for free images to use.

Thanks

Ed

Hey Ed, that is usually the norm when it comes to entering your photograph in ANY competition.

Sort of the rules of the game I guess. You have to read the fine print on competitions reallllll good.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the advice, yes I have read the fine print that's where this was tucked away.

Another forum that I frequent people have been emailing the organisers saying how appalled they are with the rule, but if its the norm I suppose they are just as uneducated as me when it comes to this sort of thing.

Thanks again
