Bizarre Modern History in California Ghost Town

Postby DianaT » Mon Apr 05, 2010 7:22 pm

Wandering around a part of California where we had not been before, in the middle of no where near Trona, we discovered a virtual Ghost town--- one that supplied the old mines in the Panamint Range, the name of the place is Ballarat.

I took a few pix of an old 1942 Dodge power wagon. I did not know until later that this truck was used by a member of the infamous Charlie Manson familey, Tex Watson as he was fleeing from the law.

It is really an interesting and beautiful part of California this time of year----

Thanks for listening to this little piece of history trivia and looking at the pix

Great stuff Diane, I'd have gone crazy with the Power Wagon, I love finding old iron to photograph

I'm gonna have to get exact location from you at a later date so next time we're on the West Coast, we can check this out

Thanks to both of you for looking and commenting. Parts of the California and Nevada deserts are often overlooked and looked at as just big empty places. But we love them, the wide open spaces, and there really is a lot to see---at least we think so.

Pat, we have a few more places around there you would enjoy, but it cannot be in the summer!
