Now for Something Completely Different

Postby Graham Owen » Sun Jul 08, 2007 1:02 pm

While tying fishing flies for my Adirondcak trip I decided to spend a bit of extra time and tie a pair of realistic Hexagenia Limbata mayflies, in anticipation that they would be emerging from the water at the same time as my trip.

Luckily my timing was good.

My flies, ready for action. I took this photo at home before the trip, the flies are on a piece of lichen cover giant sequoia bark.

Now for the Completely Different shots....

A real Hex mayfly emerged and climbed up onto my flyrod

It seemed as if my fly was helping to pull her up...

Greetings

Time for a kiss

Seemed like the flies were having as much fun as I was

I think she likes him

I like to think she was attempting to mate with my fly, as opposed to killing it

Image
This little dragonfly came in for a kill, luckily I use a tear proof wing material on my flies.

The shots above were unfortunately taken with a 300mm f/4.

One more closeup and I was prepared for this shot and used a macro lens. I'm already looking forward to next years Adirondack trip!

I had a great time on my trip...

Cheers,
Graham

I'm confused as to which one is the real one and which one is the fake one. Either you make flies for a living, or maybe you should think about it.

What a great set of shots!!!

Graham,

Those are wonderful and your fly looks perfect! We do expect to see the results from actually using the fly to fish. Really nice to see you posting again.

Thank you bob_r, Dalantech, Bonich Photo and irrigator,

One thing I learned while taking these photos, is that I'm now as addicted to photography as I am to fly fishing. These are the only two activities that can, at times, get my adrenaline pumping enough to make my heart race and fingers tremble. I really like that feeling, even though it is not conducive to making my task easier.
