Birds Of Dixie Shores

Postby rstrick2 » Thu Dec 23, 2010 4:13 pm

A recent Cold Spell in Florida has cooled the water down so the fish are very sluggish. This is foremost in the Dixie Shores area. Dixie Shores is an island development that features canals leading to the gulf of Mexico. The cold snap brought in big fish eating birds to the area. There are Woodstorks, Brown Pelicans, Osprey, Bald Eagles, Blue herons, Great Egrets and even Vultures. The birds were especially busy at low tide when they could wade much easier. The Brown Pelican would fly in and dive down splashing. The Woodstorks, Blue Herons and the Great Egrets would move from place to place looking for an easy meal. Occasionally the Osprey and Bald Eagles would fly by looking for a fish on the surface. The activity lasted from dawn to sunset providing great light for photography.
