First time with Hockey

Postby gldiana » Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:17 pm

I don't usually shoot sports, but at the last local Hockey team game I decided to bring my camera with the 100-400 L to see what I could get.
That lens is definitely not designed for sports/action indoor conditions but setting my 50D at ISO 1600 and 2000 and a little use of Noise Ninja gave, what I think, acceptable results:

For your first time out, I'd say you did a fine job!!

I think I'd play with the white balance a bit to take out the blue tint, and adjust the contrast a bit in one or two, but man, the bright lights reflecting off the ice makes it hard to shoot doesnt it!!

Outstanding job considering that was a f/4 lens!!

Pretty good for a first try I'd say. Nice work. I do agree with Pat about the white balance.

Hi guys, thanks.
The ice looks white in my monitor but I'm not surprised by your comments, I expected something like this to happen. Remember all those problems we heard about photos showing the wrong tones in Photoshop? Well, all the images I load in Lightroom have a very strong orange hue so I need to correct them. I corrected for my monitor but obviously it looks different elsewhere: it's frustrating. I asked a friend who's a Canon pro and has no clue either. Without a calibration device it's really hard and right now I can't get one. So if you forgot to send me a birthday/Christmas gift, this would be a good time, hahahaha :)
