Windsurfers

Postby Edd » Tue Apr 21, 2009 7:09 am

Hi All,

Went to see some family this weekend and we had a day out on the coast.

Bit breezie but some people were having a great time.

They weren't the fastest guys that I have seen on a windsurfer, but far more skillful that I could ever be on one :D :D

C&C welcome as always.

Wow, where was this? And where were you, on a boat, on the shore with a ginormous lens?? Do you worry about mist getting on your lens? I would have fallen down trying to carry one of those things into the water. The only thing I can really see that is 'off' is the horizon in the first one, a little cocked to the right. Can you straighten it? Maybe punch up your colors? Looks like it was cloudy? The middle guy has the right idea with a colorful sail. How will anyone know you're coming, besides all the screaming? Oh, wait - that would just be me...

Hi Otter,

These were shot in the county of Norfolk in a town called Wells-Next-Sea. Yes Strange name.

The Harbour is fed via a deep narrow channel so I was able to stand on the edge of the sand bank and snap these guys as they came past. The lens was my 100 - 400mm L.

The day was very gray and very windy.

You quite rightly picked up on the horizon in the first shot, yep they were all like that but I decide to leave that one alone for some reason. Does it add to the image ????? I think it does, but happy to be guided on other peoples opinions.

The colours are as good as I can get them, anybody want to try to improve them feel free, want the original to work on let me know and I'll send it over.

Thanks

Ed

I'm just wondering, if the top guy right now is uppy downy, and the horizon is crooked... straightening out the horizon will make him crooked, which indicates action. ? Or he's tipping over, which is what i would do. You can't take anything I say too seriously, half the ballgame photos I took are crooked!

For you first stab at it Edd, I think you did a top notch job with these.

Crisp shots, good angles and you have great exposures.

I agree that sometimes straightening the subject and not the horizon might make the image look funny. This is why I have one of the Grids in my view screen on the 5D. I was terrible with my horizons and now it's one of the first things I look at.

If this was available near your house, I'd spendsome time down there practicing. Might even want to throw the guys a business card when they come ashore and you could probably make some sales. I know I've sat fooling around practicing and ended up with sales once I showed them the shots. Migh be worth a try. Wors that can happen is they say no and you still have your shots

Wow thanks for the feedback Pat :D :D

Unfortunately this spot is a good 2 1/2 hours drive for me on a good day.

When we arrived there was a big new shiny sign that had been put up and at the bottom it read "No Professional Photography Without Written Consent", seeing that I was using my 100 - 400mm L I was expecting someone to say something to me. But I guess the wind must off been to cold for anyone to bother me plus everyone else was getting cold so I was fished off the beach pretty quickly. :(
