Indoor Techniques

Postby Edd » Tue Sep 08, 2009 6:35 am

Okay this is an area that I have never really look at, however after going to a wedding this weekend the photographer didn't use a flash on any indoor shots.

Now I would of thought that in the dimmer light of indoors a flash would be an necessity. :? (except in sports photography)

The only way I can think that the photographer was avoiding motion blurr was to use a high ISO and a fast lense. Am I missing something here or does this guy know a trick or too ????

Ed
If you want to edit any of my images to demonstrate points/techniques to either myself or others please feel free to do so.
Still learning with Canon 40D, 28-135mm, 100-400mm L and Elements 6.
Any Advice greatfully received.

You're right on target, ED. With a fast prime and a high ISO setting you can almost shoot in the dark.

For example: this shot was taken at our zoo's "Creatures of the night" exhibit. There are a few black lights around but the exhibit is almost in darkness.
This is a shot of a White-nosed Coati (that I could hardly see) taken with a 30D, 35 f/1.4L lens with these settings - 1/60s f/1.4 at 35.0mm iso800

Ed, here's one more that was taken with available candle light.
same camera and lens - 1/125s f/1.4 at 35.0mm iso400
