Printer selection Criteria

So, with the terrific reviews of the new Epson and Canon and HP printers, what criteria does one use to select THE one to purchase.
I am looking for a printer that will make both color and black and white prints large enough to display in galleries....or on my walls....
At this time my manor interest is in producing great prints from my older black and white negatives. Hints will be appreciated.
