replacing my paperweight 28-80

Postby hw771230 » Thu Mar 08, 2007 8:44 pm

I am looking to replace my really cheap Sigma 28-80 f/3.5. I would like to have about the same zoom range but with better glass and lower f. I have looked at Tokina and Sigma, but don't know what the best bang for the buck is.

Thanks,

Caleb

I think I am going to go with the Nikon 18-35 f/3.5. Does anyone use this lens? Let me know what you think. Any other suggestions. I also have a Nikon 50 f/1.8 and Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6.

well now do you have film or digital?

a good replacement is the tamron 28-75 f2.8 its under $400 and is a great lens.

if you have digital you might want to look at the 17-50 f2.8 tamron, sigma 18-50 f2.8 for the same effective view range. also the sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 is a half stop better than the nikon 18-70 f3.5-4.5

i have tested the tamron 17-50 f2.8 and it will be one of my next 2 lenses.

BPK,

Thanks. I tink I will try the Taamrons. I read that the quality is better than Sigma. Does anyone know about the Tamron 17-35 f/2.8 (IF). It is priced pretty low.

Off to the camera shop.
