Canon 40D

I'm sure most of you have heard all the rumors about the soon to be release of the 30D replacement. Amazon inadvertently posted the specs today before the information was to be made public. They quickly removed the information, but before they did, Bob Atkins managed to copy the specs to his site. Here is a link for those interested:

I think it's going to the top of my wish list. According to another report of inadvertent early publishing, Best Buy is supposed to have it available Sept. 2.

Can you imagine if you had to have the top of the line camera as soon as they came out? Like if you were a full fledged pro and had to always have the best of the best?

It used to be every few years the cameras came out with a few new features. It seems like each year, they completely reinvent the model you thought you'd never have to replace.

I really like the features that 40D has, but it'll be awhile before I can afford that puppy after just buying the 30D. Thanks for the link.

Pat,

I can't imagine needing to replace the pro cameras every time they were updated. For that matter, I can't imagine replacing mine very often. I'm not planning on replacing my 30D, but I'd love to have two cameras for a lot of reasons. I've had mine in the shop twice in the last year and I hate being without one.

I'm not planning on being the first in line to buy one either. Maybe they'll have an "after Christmas" sale that could make it very attractive. If anyone is looking for a terrific camera at a great price, the price for the 30D is already dropping. Adorama has the body only listed for less than $1000 already and I suspect they'll be even less once the 40D is actually sellling.

Canon came out with their new pro camera today, as well as the 40D. the EOS-1DS Mark III for those of you with 8,000 to spare. It has 21.1 megapixels (WOW!), for those that need it.

Just noticed this link on Amazon too. They are taking pre-orders for the 40D

Bob, I dont think I would be without two bodies just for the ease not having to change lenses and always have a backup.

I learned this from those days of carrying around two film bodies so one could have color and one could have Black & White

Man does that new Mark III look sweet!! I've got to wipe the drool off the screen now.

Pat,

I used to carry two cameras too, back in my film days, but have been blowing all my hobby money for lenses for the 30D. I don't mind having to change lenses when I have lots of time.

What bugs me is when I have a long range setup mounted on the tripod and a flight of ducks or geese come in right in front of me. I've had that happen a number of times and just didn't have time to make the switch.

I might have to try renting the Mark III for a day or so.

It sure does make it easier when hiking or out in the woods and you can carry one with a telephoto set-up, while the other one is set-up with a wide angle lens.

It also calms many arguements considering my wife is always by my side while we are taking pictures. This way, we only swap set-ups if one wants a change, and not have to worry about waiting to share a camera.

I told her about the new 40D and the new Mark III and she jsut rolled her eyes and said "Get the thought out of your head, RIGHT NOW!!" Althought she asked me why I havent bought the MP-3 lens that Dalentch uses?
