You can get very creative with that. I used the Canon TS-45 from Canon in Yellowstone and the only think that it's keeping me from buying it is the price ($1000). It does have quite a bit of a learning curve but the possibilities are endless.
I took this photo with that lens and had 3 photographers of Nat. Geographic caliber giving me the "Wow!"

Consider that it was about 10am and the sun at 8000 ft. is very strong.
