Canon lenses

Postby Walczak Photo » Wed Jan 02, 2008 8:50 pm

Hey Folks,
After posting that last message to Bob R., a dumb realization popped into my head. Isn't it interesting that Canon doesn't have a 70-300mm in either a f/2.8 or a f/4.0 in their "L" lineup? They have a couple of 300mm L primes, the 70-200's and a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6, but they go right around the 300mm range in their L zooms.

Anyone have any idea why they don't make one? :?

Just curious,
Jim

In the mid 80's they had a wonderful 100-300L zoom for the manual focus FD system. Then when they switched to the autofocus EOS system in 1987, they had a beautiful 100-300/5.6L zoom as well. If I remember correct there was also a non-L version of that lens. Not very fast for today's standards but those zooms do still work on all modern day digital EOS slr cameras.

At the moment they seem to sell enough of the 100-400L lens.
Regards,
Hans

They do have a 28-300'L' USM IS lens that is probably one of the best lenses they make and if they could figure out how to drop the thing down to a f/2.8, I'd own two rather than just one!

Dont know why they dont have the 70-300 'L', but their 70-200 'L' f/2.8 is my favorite lens for how fast and tack sharp it is.
