nikon D-40 0r P-80

LarryBoy in Michigan,
I currently use a point and shoot Sony cybershot dsc-100...I am considering upgrading to a Nikon P-80, or the Nikon D-40, not quite sure which would be better, not looking to purchase additional lenses in the future.
Although the Sony takes great shots, it is limited in outdoor work.
weak telephoto, and lack of use of filters is a big turn off, not to mention it is only 5 meg. pixel camera.
I use photoshop quite a bit to doctor up the photo's due to lack of filter applications. :!:

Larry,

Welcome to the Forum! I'm not familiar with either camera, but here's a link to a site that reviews most cameras. The cameras are sorted alphabetically. Good luck with your choice.

Im a Nikon shooter and Ive not heard of a "P"80... I do however shoot the D80 and it is a much better camera than the D40. The main drawback of the D40 is the autofocus motor is NOT in the body of the camera... so each time you want a new lens... you have to get one with an autofocus motor (which makes the lenses more expensive... as if they arent expensive enough).

Also the D80 uses alot of the same stuff (internally) as the D200 so your getting almost a D200 for alot less.

IMO... the D80 is the way to go.

The Coolpix P-80 is a Point & Shoot camera that sells for less than $400 while the D80 is a Digital SRL, twice the price.

Thanks Luca,

I didnt know there was a P-80. (thought it was a typo)

I thought we were compairing apples to apples....not a point & shoot to a DSLR. In that scenerio...even the D40 would be a better choice.

Larry.... dis-reguard all I said... cause I am talking bout a completely different camera.

In that case it would have been an iBook with an iPhone hahaha

Welcome!

Yeah, for the price of a P80 I'd rather go with a Canon IS1100 IS ($229) or G9 ($400 or less). The G9 also shoots RAW, 12MP.
